The Haryana government has launched a wide-reaching housing initiative aimed at providing legal home ownership and plots to economically weaker sections in both urban and rural areas. More than 1,100 families in Jagadhri received interim ownership papers for 30 sq yd plots, while nearly 3,900 rural households across 58 villages were allotted land under Gramin Awas Yojana 2.0. The effort is backed by subsidies under PMAY, employment under MGNREGA, and support for basic needs. Alongside this, the state is expanding welfare schemes in healthcare, education, and employment.
The Haryana government, under Chief Minister Shri Nayab Singh Saini, has intensified its commitment to ensure that no poor family in the state is left without a house. In a recent public event, the CM distributed interim ownership certificates to 1,144 families in Jagadhri as part of the Mukhyamantri Shehri Awas Yojana. Each family was granted a 30 square yard plot. Additionally, 3,884 rural beneficiaries across 58 villages received plot allotment letters under Gramin Awas Yojana 2.0.
Officials highlighted that the entire selection process was transparent, merit-based, and without political influence. The government confirmed that over 15,000 families in 14 cities have already been given plots in urban areas, while around 1.58 lakh applications have been received under the rural scheme from 561 villages.
As part of housing construction support, the state is offering a subsidy of USD 2.5 lakh per family under PMAY-Urban 2.0, and INR 1.38 lakh per beneficiary under PMAY-Gramin. Rural families are also eligible for INR 12,000 assistance under the Swachh Bharat Mission for toilet construction, and 90 days of wage employment under MGNREGA.
So far, 77,900 houses have been approved for urban poor with financial assistance of INR 1,650 crore, while 69,150 rural houses have been sanctioned with a total support of INR 579 crore.
The Chief Minister also stated that families who haven't yet received ownership papers will be covered in upcoming phases. In a separate initiative, the government plans to allot 100 sq yd plots to 1 lakh Antyodaya families, with the process set to begin soon.
Beyond housing, the CM shared updates on other welfare schemes. About 18 lakh families are receiving cooking gas cylinders at INR 500 each. Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, every rural household is connected with tap water supply. For healthcare, around 22 lakh patients have benefitted under Ayushman Bharat - Chirayu Yojana, with coverage of up to INR 5 lakh per family. So far, INR 2,500 crore has been spent under this scheme.
New initiatives include upgrading government hospitals in ten districts to match private hospital standards. These facilities are expected to start functioning from mid-August. The state is also setting up mustard and sunflower oil mills to ensure better prices for farmers. Plans are underway to introduce smart TVs in government schools to boost digital education.
During the event, the CM stated that unlike previous governments that promised housing without delivering possession or documents, the current administration ensures beneficiaries receive both legal ownership and land access on time.
