Bhubaneswar Development Authority conducted a transparent draw to allocate flats to urban poor under Affordable Housing Projects and in-situ slum redevelopment schemes. A total of 38 beneficiaries were assigned units across multiple sites, each required to contribute a specified beneficiary share. The Vice-Chairman reaffirmed the authority's focus on inclusive urban development and emphasised that infrastructure and basic services are integral to the housing effort. The initiative reflects a continuing commitment to relocate slum-dwellers into formal dwellings and enhance living conditions citywide.
Last week, officials from the Bhubaneswar Development Authority held a lottery draw to allocate housing units to beneficiaries selected under the Affordable Housing Projects and In-situ Slum Redevelopment schemes. It was reported that a total of 38 families residing in informal settlements received flats across three projects: the Barunei Enclave AHP in Subudhipur, Santi Nagar Awas Yojana (Keshari Residency), and Nilamadhab Awas scheme in Chandrasekharpur.
The Vice-Chairman is said to have underlined the authority's vision of inclusive city development, emphasising that their aim extended beyond merely providing shelter to ensuring access to essential infrastructure and basic amenities. The draw reportedly involved beneficiaries picking tokens from a transparent box under supervision, with each flat requiring a payment of INR 1.5 lakh as the beneficiary's share under the AHP.
A BDA official noted that the scheme represents a significant step in ongoing efforts to relocate slum-dwellers into formal housing and improve their living conditions.
By combining transparent allocation processes with mandatory contributions and a clear focus on essential services, the BDA continues to promote equitable urban development. The relocation of slum-dwellers into formal housing reflects a sustained effort to uplift living standards and integrate marginalised communities into the city's formal housing framework. Through such initiatives the authority is reaffirming its commitment to transforming Bhubaneswar into an inclusive and well-planned urban environment.
