The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) carried out a demolition drive in Airoli under the instructions of Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde. Despite having served prior notices under the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966, the individuals involved failed to remove unauthorised structures on their own. As a result, the encroachments at two sites in Sector 4, Airoli were forcibly cleared, and a penalty of INR 50,000 was levied on each offender. The drive was executed with support from the encroachment department, local police, and demolition personnel.
The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation's encroachment department initiated a clearance drive in Airoli following directives from Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde. The action was taken after the parties responsible failed to comply with prior notices issued under Section 54 of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966. The operation was executed under the supervision of Additional Commissioner (2) Dr Rahul Gethe and Deputy Commissioner (Encroachment) Dr Kailas Gaikwad.
Unauthorized constructions had been undertaken by Mr Digambar Waghmare at House No. P-87 and Mr Ajay K. Bankar at House No. P-100, both located in Sector 4, Airoli. These constructions were carried out without valid municipal permissions. In response, the department had issued formal notices requiring the concerned individuals to remove the illegal structures voluntarily. However, since the instructions were disregarded and construction activity continued, the NMMC proceeded with enforced demolition.
The clearance action resulted in the removal of unauthorised structures, and each individual involved was penalised with a fine of INR 50,000. The operation involved coordinated efforts from officials and staff of the encroachment wing at the G Division office, including Assistant Commissioner and Divisional Officer Mr Sunil Kathole. A team comprising ten labourers, two breakers, one gas cutter, and police personnel from the encroachment department supported the enforcement.
Authorities confirmed that such anti-encroachment measures will be intensified in future to curb illegal development across the municipal limits.
The imposition of penalties and use of demolition machinery signal a stricter stance on encroachments. The administration has indicated that similar stringent measures will continue to ensure adherence to planning laws and preserve regulated urban growth.
