The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) recently undertook a demolition drive in the Koparkhairane area after repeated notices to the concerned party were disregarded. The action was carried out under the guidance of senior officials, including the municipal commissioner, following non-compliance with a prior notice issued under the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966. The unauthorised structure was razed for the third time, with a fully-equipped civic team and police presence ensuring smooth execution.
The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) executed a demolition operation in the Koparkhairane division after the concerned party failed to act on the notice issued against unauthorised construction. The move was conducted by the encroachment department on the directives of Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde and under the supervision of Additional Commissioner (2) Dr Rahul Gethe and Deputy Commissioner (Encroachment) Dr Kailas Gaikwad.
The property in question belonged to Mr Abdul Aziz A Rajak Patel and was located at House No. 23, near the lake in Khairnegaon, Koparkhairane. A notice had been served earlier this year under Section 54 of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966. Since there was no response, this marked the third demolition attempt on the illegal structure.
The department had organised a focused removal operation specifically for this structure. Present at the site were Assistant Commissioner and divisional officer Mr Bharat U Dhande, Junior Engineer Mr Chandrakant Dhotre, and other civic staff, along with security arrangements by the municipal police. The demolition involved 12 labourers, one pickup van, and one Poklan machine, all of which were deployed for the successful execution of the task.
Officials indicated that further such drives against unauthorised structures in the city would be intensified going forward.
Despite issuing multiple notices, the structure continued to stand until it was brought down with full administrative backing. The civic authority's clear stance signals a continued, robust approach to tackling encroachments in the city. Future operations are expected to follow the same assertive strategy.
