The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) carried out a demolition drive in Belapur under the supervision of Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde and other senior officials. Despite prior notices issued under MRTP Act Section 54, the concerned individuals failed to remove their unauthorised constructions. The encroachment department proceeded with removal operations involving municipal staff, police personnel, and demolition tools including hammers and gas cutters. The civic body has warned that further intensified actions will follow against unauthorised developments in the city.
The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) undertook a forceful encroachment removal operation in the Belapur division. The action was conducted under the directives of Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde, with strategic guidance from Additional Commissioner (2) Dr Rahul Gethe and Deputy Commissioner (Encroachment) Dr Kailas Gaikwad. The encroachment department proceeded with demolition due to non-compliance with earlier notices.
The department had previously issued notices under Section 54 of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning (MRTP) Act to Mr/Ms Nanhe Abdul Ansari (House No. 0574, Sector 19/B, Phanspada, Belapur) and Mr/Ms Ajamoddin Razak Khan (House No. 67C/3, Sector 19, Shahbaz Village) for illegal constructions. These individuals were required to remove the unauthorised structures themselves, but they failed to act.
In response, the Belapur office of the encroachment department organised a demolition campaign. The unauthorised constructions were dismantled with the assistance of Assistant Commissioner and Divisional Officer Dr Amol Palwe, Assistant Engineer Mr Atmaram Kale, other departmental officers and staff, ten labourers, two hammers, and two gas cutters. Police personnel from the encroachment department were also deployed during the operation.
The corporation stated that similar encroachment removal drives will continue with greater intensity going forward.
Despite formal notices, the structures remained intact, prompting swift administrative action. With the support of demolition teams and police security, illegal properties were effectively removed. The administration has made it clear that continued vigilance and more such stringent actions will follow to maintain orderly urban development across the city.
