Synopsis

Wipro Infrastructure Engineering (WIN) recently announced the launch of Wipro Electronic Materials, a new business division focused on manufacturing high-performance base materials for Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs). As part of this initiative, the company will establish a Copper Clad Laminate (CCL) manufacturing facility in Karnataka, investing approximately INR 500 crore and creating around 350 jobs. This move aims to address India's current 100 percent import dependency for CCLs, strengthen the domestic electronics manufacturing supply chain, and boost global competitiveness across rapidly growing sectors like telecommunications, automotive, and AI infrastructure.

Wipro Infrastructure Engineering (WIN), a provider of engineering and manufacturing solutions, recently announced the launch of a new business division. This division, named Wipro Electronic Materials, will focus on making high-performance base materials for Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs).

As part of this new division, the company is setting up a Copper Clad Laminate (CCL) manufacturing facility in Karnataka. This project involves an investment of approximately INR 500 crore and is expected to create around 350 jobs. The new plant will produce over 6 million sheets of copper-clad laminates and related pre-impregnated materials. Copper-clad laminates are fundamental components in electronic devices, forming the base layers of PCBs found in almost all modern electronics.

Pratik Kumar, CEO of Wipro Infrastructure Engineering (WIN) and MD of Wipro Enterprises, stated that Wipro Electronic Materials represented a first-of-its-kind investment in India's electronics manufacturing sector, made possible by the timely support of the Government of Karnataka and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). He added that by providing Indian manufacturers with reliable access to locally produced, high-quality materials, they were strengthening supply chain resilience and accelerating global competitiveness.

Currently, India imports all its copper-clad laminates. This new domestic facility aims to change that, supporting various fast-growing sectors. These include telecommunications, automotive electronics, consumer devices, industrial systems, and artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure. This move aligns with India's broader "Make in India" initiative and efforts to boost domestic manufacturing in critical electronic components.
