Synopsis

The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has introduced new rules for transporting construction materials in Yeoor Hills, an environmentally sensitive zone. Under these regulations, a construction permit from TMC's Urban Development Department is now mandatory, and authorized builders must register project details and vehicle information with the forest department. This move aims to curb unauthorized constructions and protect the ecological balance of the hills. The TMC is also taking action against illegal turf and commercial constructions, and has issued notices for noise and firecracker violations, reflecting a broader effort to preserve the sensitive environment of Yeoor Hills.

The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has implemented new rules for transporting construction materials within Yeoor Hills, an area designated as environmentally sensitive. These new directives aim to protect the ecological balance of the region.

The new regulations state that no construction material can be brought into Yeoor Hills without a valid construction permit from the Thane Municipal Corporation's Urban Development Department. Additionally, individuals who have authorized construction permissions are now required to register their project details with the forest department's entrance post. This registration includes providing a copy of the permit, details about the type of construction material, and information about the vehicles used for transport. These directives were issued after a review meeting led by municipal commissioner Saurabh Rao.

During the meeting, Dinesh Tayde, the Deputy Commissioner, reported on efforts to address unauthorized constructions. He stated that eight out of ten unauthorized turf constructions in Yeoor have already been removed, with legal steps underway for the remaining ones. A survey of other unauthorized commercial constructions in the area is also in progress.

In a related move, Civic Chief Saurabh Rao also advised private bungalow owners in Yeoor to avoid using excessive lighting, loudspeakers, or bursting firecrackers on their properties, which can disturb the natural environment. So far, 188 notices have been issued to residents for such violations, and 18 First Information Reports (FIRs) have been registered concerning noise and firecracker infractions.

To ensure ongoing enforcement and the ecological preservation of Yeoor Hills, a multi-agency coordination committee will be formed under the leadership of the additional commissioner.
