Union Minister for Commerce and Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal, described the recent GST reforms as a significant step towards a self-reliant India. Speaking at the inaugural session of the second India MedTech Expo 2025 and the eleventh International Exhibition on Pharma and Healthcare, he called on all citizens to unite in making India a developed and prosperous nation by 2047. He said the reforms are intended to create opportunities for all, ensuring inclusive and sustainable growth across the country.
Shri Goyal expressed confidence in India's resilience, noting that the nation has successfully navigated challenges in the past and is capable of overcoming future ones as well. He urged stakeholders to support Swadeshi initiatives, promote locally made products, and recognize individuals contributing to India's growth across the country.
Dr. Rajiv Behl, Secretary of the Department of Health Research and Director General of ICMR, highlighted the importance of collaboration between industry and academia to strengthen India's reputation as the "Pharmacy of the World." He explained that ICMR's initiatives, such as MedTech Mitra and Patent Mitra, are designed to link research institutions and industry, contributing to India's growth story.
Shri Nitin Kumar Yadav, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, outlined India's trade strategies, including reducing tariffs, harmonizing regulations, and creating new export opportunities. He emphasized India's vision to become a global hub for healthcare and wellness, leveraging strengths in pharmaceuticals, medical devices, Ayurveda, yoga, nutraceuticals, and healthcare services.
Dr. Rajiv Singh Raghuvanshi, DCGI at CDSCO, spoke about regulatory reforms in the medical and healthcare sector. He said India is making regulations lighter while strengthening enforcement, highlighting initiatives that have made regulations more industry-friendly and reinforced India's position as a recognized supplier of healthcare products globally.
Mr Praveen Kumar Mittal, Executive Director of EPCMD, stated that India's medical devices sector, valued at nearly USD 15 billion and projected to double by 2030, is supported by over 800 start-ups, strong research and development, and a growing manufacturing base. He added that the expo will serve as a catalyst to showcase this growth and encourage collaborations to improve healthcare access in India and internationally.
The three-day India MedTech Expo 2025, held at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, is organized by the Department of Pharmaceuticals under the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, in collaboration with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, EPCMD, and CDSCO under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The expo, themed 'India: Global MedTech Manufacturing Hub, Precision Engineering yet Affordable,' features MSME and start-up innovations, research pavilions, state showcases, and government initiatives.
The event has drawn over 150 international buyers from more than 30 countries, providing opportunities for partnerships and investment in India's MedTech sector. Leading industry associations, including AIMED, ADMI, MTAI, AMTZ, AMCHAM, APACMED, ADVAMED, APMEI, ASSOCHAM, CII, FICCI, INVEST INDIA, PHDCCI, NATHEALTH, USIBC, and USISPF, are supporting the expo, making it a key platform to shape the future of medical technology in India.
