The Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) is accelerating land acquisition for the Harnandipuram township project after slow progress through mutual agreements. Only 14 hectares have been acquired since March, prompting the authority to invoke the Land Acquisition Act for the remaining 507 hectares. The township, covering 521 hectares, is designed to accommodate Ghaziabad's growing population and strengthen the city's real estate landscape. By adopting the act, the GDA plans to simplify the acquisition process, ensure timely project execution, and offer housing options similar to the successful Indirapuram township.
The Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) has moved to fast-track the land acquisition process for the Harnandipuram township after encountering delays in acquiring land through mutual consent. Since March, the authority has successfully acquired only 14 hectares out of the total 521 hectares earmarked for the project. To address the remaining 507 hectares, the GDA has decided to invoke the Land Acquisition Act.
This decision was made during a board meeting held this week, where the authority approved proceeding under the act to ensure the land is secured efficiently. Previously, negotiations with farmers for mutual consent were slow, making it difficult to maintain project timelines. Using the Land Acquisition Act allows the GDA to issue legal notifications, making it binding for landowners to transfer their holdings. The compensation rates have been set at four times the circle rate in rural areas and twice the circle rate in urban clusters, ensuring compliance while remaining fair to landowners.
The Harnandipuram township is planned across 521 hectares and is designed as a modern urban settlement to support Ghaziabad's expanding population. The project aims to replicate the success of Indirapuram township, offering structured housing options while promoting organized urban growth in the region. With land acquisition now set to proceed more systematically, the township is expected to move forward without further delays, benefiting both residents and the local real estate market.
