The Maharashtra cabinet, led by Chief Minister Shri Devendra Fadnavis, approved an extensive set of infrastructure, welfare and policy measures in its recent meeting. Key clearances included new metro corridors across Mumbai, Pune and Nagpur, suburban rail expansion, and the creation of an international business hub in Nagpur. Major investments were also sanctioned for roads, rail corridors, and the Bombay High Court complex. Additionally, decisions on enhanced financial aid for disabled beneficiaries, revised energy policies and new tribal education schemes were finalised.
The Maharashtra cabinet, under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Shri Devendra Fadnavis, approved several high-value infrastructure projects earlier this week. These included the INR 23,487 crore Mumbai Metro Line-11 between Wadala and Gateway of India, the Thane circular metro, and extensions to Pune Metro Lines 2 and 4. Further approvals were given for Nagpur Metro Phase-2, along with new stations at Balajinagar and Bibwewadi in Pune.
Alongside this, clearance was granted for procurement of 238 air-conditioned local trains for Mumbai under MUTP-3 and 3A, at an estimated cost of INR 4,826 crore. The government also committed INR 14,907 crore for 136 km of new suburban corridors, including routes from Panvel to Vasai, Kasara to Asangaon, and Badlapur to Karjat. Moreover, approval was given for the INR 5,100 crore third and fourth suburban corridor between Pune and Lonavala.
Nagpur is set to see large-scale development, with the cabinet sanctioning an INR 13,748 crore outer ring road and four logistics hubs. Additionally, an International Business and Finance Centre (IBFC) worth INR 6,500 crore will be developed under the 'New Nagpur' initiative, which is projected to create more than five lakh jobs. Other significant infrastructure decisions included an INR 6,363 crore Thane-Navi Mumbai elevated road and a new Bombay High Court complex in Bandra (East) worth INR 3,750 crore.
On the welfare front, the government approved an increase in monthly assistance for disabled beneficiaries under the Sanjay Gandhi Niradhar and Shravanbal schemes. The allowance will rise from INR 1,500 to INR 2,500, benefitting around 4.75 lakh people and resulting in an annual outlay of INR 570 crore from October 2025.
In the energy sector, a revised fly ash utilisation policy for thermal power plants was adopted, with an emphasis on 100 per cent eco-friendly disposal and provision of incentives to stakeholders, alongside generating local employment opportunities.
For tribal development, the cabinet confirmed the replacement of the state's Suvarna Mahotsavi Tribal Scholarship with the Centre's pre-matric scholarship scheme for Class IX and X students. The new scheme will provide higher benefits, while hostel-residing students will continue to receive additional support through the state's plan.
With major allocations for metro and rail projects, significant commitments to Nagpur's business growth, and social measures for disadvantaged groups, the state has underlined its focus on both economic growth and inclusive welfare. Energy and education policy revisions further demonstrate the government's intent to align infrastructure expansion with sustainability and long-term social support.
