Synopsis

Andhra Pradesh RERA has directed all real estate agents in the state to complete mandatory registration within a month, highlighting that only a limited number have complied so far. The regulator warned that homebuyers are at risk when dealing with unregistered agents and stressed that penalties, restrictions, and legal proceedings would follow in cases of non-compliance. Measures are also being taken to clear pending project applications and enhance transparency.

The Andhra Pradesh Real Estate Regulatory Authority (APRERA) has issued a strict directive requiring all real estate agents operating in the state to complete their registration within the next month. Officials pointed out that while just 248 agents are currently on record, thousands continue to operate without registration, creating risks for buyers and undermining transparency in property transactions.

The regulator emphasised that the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act of 2016 makes registration mandatory and warned that non-compliance would invite penalties, restrictions on business operations, and potential legal action. An online portal has been made available to simplify the registration process and ensure faster compliance.

Alongside this move, APRERA is working to clear a backlog of more than 600 pending project applications. The authority has empowered its members to conduct hearings and expedite approvals, thereby strengthening accountability and streamlining the process.

APRERA also called upon industry associations such as NAREDCO and CREDAI to support the initiative by encouraging all agents within their networks to regularise their operations through timely registration.

By setting a one-month deadline and warning of strict consequences for defaulters, the authority is moving towards a more accountable property market. Clearing project backlogs and involving industry bodies further strengthens the effort to establish a transparent and trustworthy real estate ecosystem in Andhra Pradesh.
