Synopsis

Adani Power has received a Letter of Award (LoA) from Bihar State Power Generation Company Ltd (BSPGCL) to construct a new 2,400 MW ultra-supercritical thermal power plant in Pirpainti, Bihar. The project, with a total investment of USD 3 billion (approx. INR 26,340 crore), will supply power to two state utilities for 25 years. This development follows a competitive bidding process where Adani Power offered the lowest tariff of INR 6.075 per kWh. The company estimates the project will create up to 12,000 jobs during the construction phase and a further 3,000 jobs once operational, playing a crucial role in meeting India's escalating power demand.

Adani Power recently announced it has received a Letter of Award (LoA) from the Bihar State Power Generation Company Ltd (BSPGCL) to build a 2,400 MW greenfield thermal power plant. The facility, comprising three 800 MW units, will be an ultra-supercritical plant located at Pirpainti in the Bhagalpur district of Bihar, with a total investment of USD 3 billion.

This award secures a 25-year long-term power procurement agreement for the company, which will supply electricity to two state utilities- North Bihar Power Distribution Company Ltd (NBPDCL) and South Bihar Power Distribution Company Ltd (SBPDCL). The move follows Adani Power's success as the lowest bidder in the competitive bidding process, offering an electricity supply price of INR 6.075 per KWh.

Adani Power CEO S.B. Khyalia announced that the project will set new benchmarks for operational excellence and sustainability while providing affordable, uninterrupted power to the people of Bihar. The new plant is a strategic move to address India's rapidly growing power demand, with projections indicating that peak demand could rise from the current 250 GW to 400 GW by 2031-32, and over 700 GW by 2047. The company stated that the project is expected to create between 10,000 and 12,000 jobs during the construction phase and approximately 3,000 jobs upon commencement of operations.
