The first trial coaches for Mumbai Metro Line 4 were placed on tracks near Anand Nagar, Thane, on August 25, 2025, marking the project's final phase. Trial runs are set to begin in September, with the Yellow Line-running from Wadala to Kasarvadavali-expected to open to the public next year. Deputy CM Shri Eknath Shinde confirmed that work on Thane's underground internal metro line, linked to Line 4, is also progressing. The trial coaches, supplied under a BEML-L&T Alstom JV contract, will test systems before final trains arrive. The first operational stretch, a 10.5-km segment with 10 stations, will open in February 2026.

Deputy Chief Minister Shri Eknath Shinde stated that the metro line will be opened to the public sometime next year. He added that the work on the Thane internal metro line with underground stations with Metro 4 is also underway, which will offer last-mile connectivity and benefit commuters from Thane and neighboring areas.
The contract for the rolling stock for Mumbai Metro's Line 4 was given in February to the BEML & Toubro-Alstom joint venture. The trial coaches that have come to Thane will be used only for testing, with their specifications matching the final rolling stock. The coaches will be used to test the systems and track preparedness before the actual trains arrive.
The Yellow Line will facilitate smooth travel between Mumbai and Thane, providing relief from the road network currently plagued by traffic. The longest segment to be inaugurated in the first phase will be a 10.5-km section of Metro Line 4A and part of Line 4, between Gaimukh and Cadbury Junction, with 10 stations in all, which will open in February 2026.
