The Municipal Corporation of Manesar (MCM) will now charge property owners for the cost of cleaning their vacant lots or private premises if garbage is found to have accumulated there. This new measure, which is being taken under Section 274 of the Haryana Municipal Corporation Act, 1994, is intended to improve sanitation and public health. MCM commissioner Ayush Sinha stated that this move will not only promote cleanliness but also make the public aware of their responsibilities. The MCM has also resumed its door-to-door waste collection service after a two-year hiatus.
In a move to improve sanitation and public health, the Municipal Corporation of Manesar (MCM) will now charge property owners for the cost of cleaning their vacant plots or private premises if garbage is found to have accumulated there. The MCM, which was established on December 24, 2020, has empowered its officials under Section 274 of the Haryana Municipal Corporation Act, 1994, to remove garbage and recover the expenses from the owners. This measure is intended to promote cleanliness and make the public aware of their responsibilities.
According to MCM commissioner Ayush Sinha, the joint commissioners have been instructed to conduct regular inspections and take action against violators. MCM will hire agencies to remove the waste and then charge the property owner for the cost, which will be recovered in the same manner as outstanding taxes. This initiative comes amid a growing sanitation crisis in Manesar, which has been plagued by a lack of designated dumping zones and mismanagement of waste handling contracts.
Additionally, the MCM has resumed its door-to-door waste collection service after a two-year hiatus. A five-year contract worth INR 64.9 crore has been awarded to the same firm that previously handled the service, which was halted in July 2023. While the door-to-door service will primarily cater to village residents, condominiums and bulk waste generators are required by Solid Waste Management rules to install their own on-site composting and recycling facilities. This step is a key part of the MCM's broader vision of making Gurugram a cleaner, safer, and more livable city.
