Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) is actively seeking land to establish a new greenfield manufacturing plant, a move that is part of a larger strategy to meet booming domestic and export demand. The company, which recently unveiled its new NU IQ modular, multi-energy platform, aims to scale its total production capacity significantly. With a goal of achieving 10 lakh EV production capacity by 2027, M&M is simultaneously expanding its existing plant in Chakan and bolstering its service network by up to 200 outlets annually to support its rapidly growing customer base.
Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), a leader in the Indian SUV market, is embarking on an aggressive expansion strategy to capitalize on a surge in demand for both its internal combustion engine and electric vehicles. The company is actively scouting for a land parcel to set up a new greenfield manufacturing plant, a key move to support its ambitious production targets.
This expansion is directly linked to the company's new NU IQ platform, a highly modular, multi-energy architecture engineered to support a new range of SUVs with diverse powertrains. The new platform is a cornerstone of M&M's future product pipeline, with the first model expected to be rolled out in 2027. The company is also significantly scaling its current manufacturing capacity at its Chakan plant by 2.4 lakh units to meet immediate demand.
The company's ambitions are particularly high in the electric vehicle segment, where it aims to achieve a production capacity of 10 lakh units for EVs alone by 2027. This aggressive target places M&M in a strong competitive position in the Indian EV market, which is seeing increasing participation from major players. The new greenfield plant will be crucial in helping the company achieve this goal and gain a stronger foothold in both domestic and international markets.
In tandem with its manufacturing expansion, M&M is also focusing on strengthening its service network to cater to its rapidly growing customer base. According to Nalinikanth Gollagunta, the CEO of Mahindra & Mahindra Auto Division, the company plans to add anywhere between 150 and 200 new service outlets every year. This is a vital step to keep pace with the growing number of vehicles on the road and to enhance the overall customer experience, particularly in urban areas where the brand's presence has grown tremendously.
Mahindra's proactive strategy of combining new product innovation with a large-scale increase in production capacity and service infrastructure is a strong indicator of its confidence in the Indian automotive market. With a robust monsoon and the upcoming festive season expected to fuel demand, the company projects a healthy 15-20% year-on-year volume growth for the current fiscal year.
