The Panvel City Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has extended its property tax amnesty scheme until September 30, 2025. This decision, influenced by a protest rally from opposition parties, offers a 90% fine exemption until September 15, and a 75% rebate from September 16 to September 30. The extension replaces a four-tier system and aims to recover a significant portion of the INR 1,842 crore in outstanding property tax dues, which represents 47% of the civic body's 2025-26 budget.
The Panvel City Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has extended its property tax amnesty scheme until September 30, 2025. The new schedule offers a 90% fine exemption for those who pay their outstanding dues by September 15, and a 75% rebate for payments made between September 16 and September 30. This extension, which replaces a previously planned four-tier system, was influenced by a recent protest rally from opposition parties.
According to a civic official, the extension was necessary to recover the substantial outstanding property tax dues, which amount to INR 1,842 crore. This figure represents a significant portion of the civic body's total budget for the 2025-26 fiscal year, highlighting the challenges faced by the PCMC in its collection efforts. The civic body has collected INR 213 crore since the scheme's start on July 18, and hopes to collect a significant amount more before the new deadline.
The PCMC was constituted in October 2016 and its jurisdiction covers a large area of 110 square kilometers. The city's INR 3,873.86 crore budget for the 2025-26 fiscal year prioritizes development and improving civic facilities, including the construction of a new administrative building and a fully-equipped 450-bed hospital in Kalamboli. This new extension of the amnesty scheme is a key step towards achieving these goals.
