The Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) has ramped up its efforts to recover pending property taxes by sealing and attaching 24 buildings across multiple zones. The civic body's move comes in response to a continued backlog of unpaid dues, despite earlier initiatives such as online payment systems and one-time settlement schemes. The action targets high-defaulter properties and reflects LMC's stricter enforcement measures to improve revenue collection and ensure compliance among property owners.
The Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) has recently strengthened its crackdown on property tax defaulters, taking decisive action by sealing and attaching 24 buildings across zones 1, 3, 4, and 5. This step reinforces the civic body's commitment to recovering pending property taxes and ensuring that all property owners meet their obligations.
In Zone 1, properties located at Astabal Chauraha, Charbagh, and Bagh Sherganj faced action. Two buildings were sealed due to outstanding dues of INR 66,906 and INR 1.9 lakh. In zone 3, the focus was on properties at Dilkusha Plaza, Faizullaganj, and Gauriganj. Here, two buildings with arrears of INR 1.73 lakh each were sealed, while other recoveries included INR 1.05 lakh, INR 1.34 lakh, and INR 40,000. Another property in this zone was sealed for non-payment of INR 1.57 lakh.
Zone 4 saw two buildings in the Papermill ward targeted, resulting in INR 78,000 in recovered dues. Additionally, four other properties in the same zone were sealed for non-payment. In zone 5, six properties in Ashutosh Nagar, Indralok, and Jafar Kheda were acted upon. Dues of INR 87,116, INR 68,918, and INR 50,085 were successfully recovered, while one property in Indralok with arrears of INR 1.37 lakh was sealed.
Municipal Commissioner Gaurav Kumar stated that the LMC will continue these strict enforcement measures until compliance improves and all outstanding dues are cleared.
These actions follow earlier efforts by the LMC to tackle property tax defaults, including online payment systems and one-time settlement schemes. Despite these measures, a considerable number of property owners continued to delay or avoid payments. The current move represents a more assertive approach to improve revenue collection and ensure fairness among taxpayers.
