Synopsis

The National Real Estate Development Council (NAREDCO) Maharashtra has postponed its annual real estate event, "The Real Estate Forum 2025," due to a severe spell of heavy rainfall and subsequent waterlogging in Mumbai. The event was originally scheduled for August 20. The decision was made in response to an advisory from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and was taken to ensure the safety and convenience of attendees. The heavy rains, which dropped over 300 millimeters in Mumbai in a single day, caused widespread disruptions, including flight delays and traffic gridlock. A new date for the event has not yet been announced.

The National Real Estate Development Council (NAREDCO) Maharashtra has announced the postponement of its flagship annual event, "The Real Estate Forum 2025," in light of the ongoing heavy rains and severe waterlogging that have crippled parts of Mumbai. Originally planned for Wednesday, August 20, the event was to be a major gathering for the Indian real estate industry, with notable figures like Maharashtra Chief Minister Shri Devendra Fadnavis and Mumbai Municipal Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani expected to attend.

The decision was made after the city experienced a massive downpour on August 18 and 19, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a heavy rain advisory. According to official reports, Mumbai received more than 300 millimeters of rain on August 19 alone, leading to widespread flooding in low-lying areas, traffic gridlock, and significant disruption to transportation networks, including flights.

The postponement highlights the broader impact of the monsoon on Mumbai's real estate sector. The heavy rains have not only disrupted a key industry event but have also led to a significant slowdown in housing transactions. Property consultants note that the monsoon season typically hampers site visits and overall mobility, leading to a dip in home sales and registrations.

NAREDCO, established in 1998 under the auspices of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India, serves as a crucial platform for the real estate industry, government, and the public to address sector challenges. The organization regularly holds events and publishes reports to promote growth, transparency, and sustainable development. The cancellation of its highly-anticipated forum, which was to focus on the theme "Reimagining Maharashtra: Global Alliances to Local Impact," underscores the severity of the weather and its profound effect on the city's economic activities. A new date for the event will be announced in the coming days, once the weather conditions stabilize and normal operations resume in the city.
