Synopsis

The Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) is preparing to launch a major housing project in Sector 54, planning around 1,700 flats across 32 acres. The project will include 15% units for the economically weaker section (EWS). Currently, CHB owns 14 acres, with the remaining land to be transferred by the estate office and the UT engineering department. A demand survey will be conducted to gauge public interest, finalize the layout, and decide pricing. The project will be executed in phases and is expected to be planned over the next few months.

The Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) is set to carry out a demand survey for its upcoming housing project in Sector 54. This survey will help the board assess public interest, decide the number of flats in different categories, and finalize pricing based on land and construction costs. The project is expected to span 32 acres and will include around 1,700 flats. Fifteen percent of these units will be reserved for the economically weaker section (EWS), reflecting CHB?s commitment to affordable housing.

At present, CHB owns 14 acres of the land required for the project. The remaining 18 acres are expected to be transferred by the estate office and the UT engineering department. Earlier, 14 acres of land had been reclaimed from encroachments and are now set for official handover. The development will be implemented in phases, with the planning process likely to be completed in four to six months.

CHB also manages other significant land parcels in the city, including over 100 acres near Vikas Marg and the Chandigarh IT Park. Plans for two housing projects in the IT Park had previously been put on hold due to a lack of approvals from the wildlife board. To address these environmental concerns, a revised low-rise project is being developed. Separately, CHB is also nearing the launch of a delayed project in Sector 53, signaling ongoing efforts to expand housing options across the city.
