Synopsis

The Telangana government is holding housewarming ceremonies for Indiramma housing beneficiaries across constituencies ahead of the local body elections. With INR 22,500 crore allocated per constituency and around 3,500 homes sanctioned in each, the program represents one of the largest housing efforts in the state. For the first time, Chenchu tribal families have been included, with more than 22,000 homes sanctioned in four ITDA regions. Building on pilot-phase progress, where 47,000 homes were already underway with INR 68 crore support, the state is also providing engineering aid during the monsoon to keep construction on track.

The Telangana government is preparing to hold large-scale housewarming ceremonies for Indiramma housing beneficiaries across the state, timed just before the upcoming local body elections. Chief Minister Shri A. Revanth Reddy, along with Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, will personally attend events in multiple constituencies, starting with Bhadradri Kothagudem district. Officials describe the initiative as both an administrative milestone and a moment of social celebration for thousands of families moving into new homes.

The revived housing scheme carries substantial financial backing, with INR 22,500 crore earmarked for each of the 119 constituencies. On average, about 3,500 homes are sanctioned per constituency. What sets this phase apart is the inclusion of the Chenchu tribal community, who have historically been left out of state housing programs. More than 22,000 homes have been approved for families in four Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) regions, making this the first time the forest-dwelling population has been given structured access to permanent housing.

The Indiramma program has its roots in earlier welfare schemes in undivided Andhra Pradesh, where it was designed to eradicate hut-dwelling and offer affordable housing to low-income families. In Telangana, the scheme has recently gained renewed pace. In the pilot phase, nearly 47,000 homes were sanctioned, and over INR 68 crore was released to support construction activities. Progress has been recorded across various stages, from foundation laying to slab work, with beneficiaries allowed to build homes sized between 400 and 600 square feet depending on the available plot.

Officials have assured that technical assistance will continue through the monsoon to avoid delays. Engineering staff are deployed to ensure quality and safety during construction in rainy conditions, so that beneficiaries can complete their homes without setbacks. The government has also stressed that these ceremonies are not symbolic gestures alone but a step toward visible delivery of promises, particularly to the most vulnerable communities.
