Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has introduced an innovative initiative by becoming the first civic body in India to provide property identity cards to citizens. The move, launched under the guidance of Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde, aims to simplify property-related transactions and enhance transparency. Around 3.5 lakh property owners across the city will benefit, gaining access to property details such as ownership, tax records, and size in a single, card-based format equipped with QR code features for digital use.

Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has become the first civic body in the country to provide property identity cards to residents. The initiative was launched under the guidance of Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde, with Additional Commissioner and Tax Department Head Dr Rahul Gethe executing the rollout after the Independence Day flag hoisting ceremony at the civic headquarters. During the launch, five property owners were handed identity cards symbolically by the Commissioner. Senior officials including Additional Commissioner Sunil Pawar, City Engineer Shirish Aradwad, and Assistant Commissioner (Property Tax) Alka Mahapurkar were also present.

The property identity card, resembling a PAN card, will benefit approximately 3.5 lakh property holders. It contains crucial details such as property number, address, area, and tax information in one place. Using this card, citizens can easily check outstanding dues or advance payments made towards property tax. The card also enables tax payment at civic service centres, while the embedded QR code allows users to pay taxes online. Similar to Aadhaar, this card will serve as an official proof of property ownership.

Officials explained that the card will streamline property sales, transfers, and verification processes, significantly reducing the time, effort, and costs previously borne by property owners. By digitising the system, NMMC aims to improve efficiency and transparency in the property tax department. Dr Shinde has emphasised his focus on maximum digitisation, and this initiative reflects his vision of easing civic interactions for tech-savvy residents of Navi Mumbai, also known as the city of the educated.

The scheme promises not only to enhance transparency in tax administration but also to ease processes such as verification, sales, and ownership transfers. By integrating both offline and online payment options through QR codes, the civic body has created a citizen-friendly system. The launch marks another significant achievement in Navi Mumbai?s journey towards becoming a digitally driven, citizen-centric urban centre.
