Synopsis

The state development body has stepped in to complete a stalled township project after ending a decades-old agreement with the original developer, who failed to deliver promised infrastructure and became insolvent. The township spans over 2,000 homes in nine blocks, along with educational, commercial, and recreational facilities. With the developer no longer active on site since about 2010-11, residents have waited years for basic services. The authority now plans to fund completion of roads, drainage, parks and a community centre using assets still held by the builder, once necessary approvals and assessments are in order.

Lucknow Development Authority has formally ended its long-running partnership with a private developer and is now directly overseeing completion of civic infrastructure in a stalled township. In a board meeting held earlier this week, the Lucknow Development Authority decided to terminate its licensing agreement-originally signed over three decades ago with a company that gradually failed to meet contractual obligations and slipped into insolvency.

The township in question includes more than 2,000 residential units organized into nine blocks, plus schools, parks, a mall, petrol pumps and commercial zones. While part of the project had been completed, vital amenities remained unfinished after the developer's on-site office closed nearly 15 years ago .. Residents, long frustrated by unfulfilled promises, expressed relief at the new development.

Moving forward, the authority plans to use funds raised from properties still held by the builder to complete roads, drainage systems and parks.. The work will begin once administrative approvals are in place and property assessments are completed. Immediate priorities include restoring road access and sanitation, while also improving public spaces and constructing a community centre.
