The Uttar Pradesh government has trimmed the budget for Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation's new Arthala office from INR 110 crore to just under INR 100 crore. Despite the cut, the G+5 green building-spread across 21,000 sq.m-will retain core features like solar systems, rainwater harvesting, and space for 209 civic vehicles. The UP Jal Nigam will execute the project, slated for completion next year. This comes amid Ghaziabad's record-high civic budget of INR 3,722 crore, with major allocations for ward-level infrastructure, roads, drainage, and a new sports complex. The new headquarters is expected to enhance civic operations and address current space limitations.
The Uttar Pradesh government has brought down the budget for Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation's proposed Arthala office by INR 10 crore, reducing the earlier estimate of INR 110 crore to slightly under INR 100 crore. The revision comes even as the civic body is preparing to construct its most advanced headquarters yet, aiming to ease long-standing space constraints at its current office, which operates from a basement in the Navyug Market area.
The upcoming civic office, to be built across 21,000 square metres, is designed to meet green building norms. The proposed G+5 structure, with two basement levels, will incorporate solar energy systems, rainwater harvesting, advanced firefighting installations, and other sustainability features. Additionally, it will provide designated space for 209 operational vehicles.
The project will be executed by the engineering wing of UP Jal Nigam and is expected to be completed by next year. Authorities have clarified that despite the budget cut, the project's core design and functionality will remain unaffected.
The decision to reduce the allocation comes against the backdrop of Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation's record-high annual budget of INR 3,722 crore, the largest in its history. In comparison, the civic budget stood at INR 2,465 crore last year and INR 1,417 crore the year before that, reflecting a significant jump in municipal spending within just two years.
As part of this expanded budget, each of the city's 100 wards has been granted INR 1 crore to address local infrastructure needs. In addition, the corporation has earmarked INR 500 crore for the development of seven key roads stretching nearly 22 km, alongside INR 108 crore for the construction of a new sports complex. A further INR 132 crore has been allocated for improving the city's drainage infrastructure.
The new Arthala office is expected to improve operational efficiency and enhance citizen services. The existing office space, originally intended for a much smaller team, has struggled to accommodate the growing number of councillors, now at 100, and civic staff. The move to a larger, modern facility aligns with Ghaziabad's broader plans for urban development and improved civic administration.
