A major land scam has been uncovered in Jaipur, where 62-year-old Jagdish Narayan Sharma was arrested for defrauding 151 people by selling illegal plots using forged lease documents. The fraudulent sales took place in an unauthorised colony Parshvanath Enclave Extension in Sanganer under the guise of a legitimate housing society. The matter came to light when an 82-year-old victim reported the scam after realising the land he purchased in 2005 was still occupied by farmers. Sharma is accused of evading arrest for years and using political influence to silence victims. Police confirmed his arrest is part of a wider crackdown on land mafia activity.
A 62-year-old man, Jagdish Narayan Sharma, has been arrested by the Jawahar Circle police in Jaipur for allegedly duping 151 people by illegally selling land using forged documents. The accused is said to have created fake lease deeds in association with a housing society and sold multiple plots in an unauthorised colony named Parshvanath Enclave Extension, located near Vatika Road in Sanganer. This arrest is part of a wider crackdown by authorities on organised land fraud rackets operating in the city.
The matter came to light when an 82-year-old man, Prem Kumar Sehgal, filed a complaint revealing he had purchased a plot in 2005 at INR 2,200 per square yard. He claimed that the only proof of the transaction he received was a token receipt. Years later, Sehgal discovered that the plot was still in possession of local farmers, prompting him to confront Sharma. During this confrontation, the accused reportedly admitted to the fraud, bragged about his political connections, and even issued threats to silence the buyer.
Police investigations revealed that Sharma had been selling land that was never legally acquired and had not been compensated for to the original landowners. To carry out this scheme, Sharma forged lease documents with the help of a housing society, making it appear as if the plots were part of an authorised development. Many unsuspecting buyers, unaware of the illegitimacy, ended up investing their savings in these plots without ever receiving valid legal ownership.
Officials stated that Sharma had been evading arrest for an extended period by frequently changing his location and using multiple hideouts. However, after sustained surveillance and tracking, police successfully arrested him earlier this week. He has since been remanded to judicial custody, and investigations are ongoing to uncover the full extent of the scam and identify any additional accomplices.
This incident is one among several recent cases of land fraud in Jaipur, where forged property documents and unauthorised developments have led to widespread buyer deception. The use of cooperative housing societies as a front to carry out such scams has become a concerning trend. Authorities have been working to enhance land verification processes and have urged buyers to cross-check title documents and approvals thoroughly before making any real estate purchases.
