Chennai-based real estate firm DRA has partnered with the Greater Chennai Corporation to launch a INR 1 crore beautification project on Sir V.P. Raman Road (Lloyds Road) under Tamil Nadu's "Namakku Naame" initiative. The four-month Public-Private Partnership aims to transform the bustling stretch into a sustainable, walkable, and aesthetically vibrant urban space. Planned upgrades include LED streetlights, landscaped walkways, public seating, and smart signage. DRA Managing Director Ranjeeth Rathod highlighted the initiative as a reflection of civic pride and community-focused progress. The project was inaugurated in the presence of senior civic officials, showcasing a strong model of public-private collaboration in urban renewal.
In a noteworthy contribution to Tamil Nadu's "Namakku Naame" scheme, DRA, a prominent real estate player in Chennai, has initiated a beautification project worth INR 1 crore to upgrade Sir V.P. Raman Road, commonly referred to as Lloyds Road. The initiative, carried out in collaboration with the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC), focuses on transforming the bustling city stretch into a sustainable, pedestrian-friendly, and aesthetically enriched zone.
Structured as a Public-Private Partnership, the project is expected to unfold over the coming four months. The scope includes installation of energy-efficient LED lighting, public seating, extensive landscaping, user-friendly walkways, and smart signage, all aimed at improving both functionality and the overall urban experience. The foundation for this transformation was laid earlier this week in a ceremony attended by Municipal Councillor of Ward 119, Thiru V. Kamala Chezhiyan, alongside DRA's senior leadership team.
Ranjeeth Rathod, Managing Director of DRA, expressed that the initiative was deeply personal for the organisation, as their head office is located on Lloyds Road. He stated that they were not merely building roads but contributing to civic pride, and highlighted how the project resonated with the company's belief that communal growth and progress are mutually reinforcing. Rathod further noted that their support for the Super Chennai vision reflects a commitment to making the city more than just functional- aiming for it to be inspirational and inclusive.
Thiru V. Kamala Chezhiyan, speaking at the event, emphasised that genuine transformation happens when citizens and institutions come together with a shared mission. He pointed out that DRA?s proactive participation under the "Namakku Naame" scheme was a prime example of responsible and visionary corporate contribution to inclusive urban development.
Several key figures from Chennai's civic and planning bodies were also present, reinforcing the collaborative strength behind the project. Attendees included Thiru N. Chittarasu, Chairman of the GCC Works Committee; S. Mathan Mohan, Zonal Chairman of Zone 9; A.R.P.M. Kamaraj, Vice Chairman from the ruling party; T.S. Srinivasan, Assistant Commissioner; M. Muthiah, Executive Engineer; R.N. Durai, Deputy Secretary of District Corporation; along with Circle Secretaries K. Prabhu and K.V. Mohan from Ward 119. Their presence underscored a unified civic vision to enhance urban infrastructure.
As Chennai evolves into a smarter, more inclusive city, initiatives like this highlight how synergy between private developers and civic authorities can redefine the urban experience and reflect a shared commitment to sustainable progress.
