In Khandwa, approximately 100 illegal houses were dismantled in the Shakkar pond area as part of an extensive anti-encroachment drive. Officials involved in the operation reportedly confirmed that residents of these structures had received notifications regarding the impending action over the past four months. Authorities ensured that only those houses with active court stay orders were exempted from the demolition. Concurrently, in Ujjain, the district administration also executed a targeted demolition drive. This operation focused on the Begum Bagh locality, situated near the revered Mahakaleshwar temple, where seven illegal structures were systematically removed.
The Ujjain Development Authority (UDA) had previously cancelled the lease agreements for these particular structures due to violations of their terms, consequently reclassifying them as illegal encroachments subject to removal. Such anti-encroachment drives are a common measure employed by urban planning bodies across India to address the persistent problem of unauthorized constructions, which often hinder planned development, strain public infrastructure, and raise concerns about safety and legality.
