The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) undertook a demolition drive in Ghansoli after unauthorised RCC construction continued despite prior notice. The action was initiated under the guidance of the Municipal Commissioner and senior civic officials, targeting illegal work on a ground-floor column and a progressing first-floor slab by a local developer. The civic action focused on a structure at Sector 21, Ghansoli, where Jayawant Gaikar, the property owner and developer, had begun constructing RCC ground-floor columns and was advancing work on the first-floor slab without obtaining the required permissions from the NMMC. The activity violated the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966, and the individual had been served a notice under Section 54 of the Act.
Despite the notice mandating voluntary removal of the unauthorised construction, the builder continued development on site. In response, the encroachment department of the Ghansoli ward office organised a demolition drive. The illegal construction was dismantled with the help of seven labourers and three breakers. Civic staff from the encroachment department and a police unit were stationed at the location to ensure smooth execution of the operation.
Municipal officials affirmed that such demolition actions would be intensified in the future, underscoring the corporation's zero-tolerance approach towards encroachments and unauthorised developments across its jurisdiction.
By demolishing the illegal RCC structure even after formal notices were ignored, the civic body demonstrated its commitment to enforcing urban planning laws. The involvement of senior officials and police presence during the operation reflects the seriousness with which such violations are being addressed. This incident also serves as a clear signal to developers and property owners that illegal structures will face swift and uncompromising civic intervention.
