The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has taken decisive action against unauthorised constructions in Belapur, following non-compliance with prior demolition notices. Structures owned by Suresh Dharma Koli, Balkrishna Dharma Koli, and Ashok Koli in Diwale village were razed under the MRTP Act. The operation, led by the encroachment department under senior civic officials, involved a full deployment of manpower and equipment. NMMC has indicated that such intensified action will continue to deter encroachments in future.
The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has initiated a demolition drive targeting unauthorised structures in the Belapur division, acting on instructions from Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde. The operation was conducted under the supervision of Additional Commissioner (2) Dr Rahul Gethe and Deputy Commissioner (Encroachment) Dr Kailas Gaikwad.
Despite receiving notices issued under Section 54 of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning (MRTP) Act, property owners Suresh Dharma Koli, Balkrishna Dharma Koli (House No. 1344, Sector 14, Diwale village) and Ashok Koli along with others (House No. 1353, Sector 14, Diwale village) continued with the construction of unauthorised structures. The civic body had expected the individuals to dismantle the illegal developments voluntarily, but the defiance prompted the enforcement action.
In response, the encroachment department from Belapur's A-ward office executed the demolition using a well-equipped team. The operation was coordinated by Assistant Commissioner and Ward Officer Dr Amol Palwe, supported by Assistant Engineer Atmaram Kale. The demolition squad included 10 labourers, two hammers, two gas cutters, and police personnel from the encroachment department for security.
NMMC has announced that such anti-encroachment actions will be intensified in the future, signalling a continued effort to uphold city planning regulations and prevent illegal constructions across Navi Mumbai.
The involvement of high-ranking civic officials, combined with legal backing under the MRTP Act, adds weight to the civic body's commitment to maintaining urban planning norms. This action sets a clear precedent for property owners defying regulations across Navi Mumbai.
