Synopsis

The Asian Development Bank has sanctioned a INR 975.26 crore loan to boost infrastructure across nine industrial zones in Tripura, including Bodhjungnagar, R K Nagar, Dukli, and AN Nagar. The funds will support 34 road projects, fire stations, industrial sheds, substations, and underground power lines. Tripura Industrial Development Corporation (TIDC) is also developing new industrial areas on 155 acres in Santirbazar and Fatikroy, and has reclaimed 28 acres from inactive units for reallocation. TIDC plans to promote plywood manufacturing using wood from senile rubber plantations, positioning Tripura to emerge as a key player in India's plywood industry.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has sanctioned a loan amounting to INR 975.26 crore, earmarked for the development of infrastructure across nine key industrial areas in Tripura. The plan includes the setting up fire service stations and developing a network of 34 roads. Among the nine identified zones are prominent industrial areas such as Bodhjungnagar, R K Nagar, Dukli, and AN Nagar.

Nabadal Banik, Chairman of the Tripura Industrial Development Corporation (TIDC), confirmed that the project is now under implementation. He detailed that the allocated funds will facilitate the construction of essential facilities including industrial sheds, new power substations, and underground electric lines.

Banik also stated that the state government has already handed over land parcels for establishing new industrial areas. These include 127 acres in Santirbazar, located in South Tripura, and another 28 acres in Fatikroy, situated in the Unakoti district.

The TIDC has commenced demarcation work in these two new areas. It has also successfully reclaimed 28 acres of land from 24 industrial units that had remained dormant. The reclaimed land will now be re-allocated to active businesses ready to contribute to the state's industrial output.

Looking ahead, Banik highlighted a new strategic initiative by the corporation to significantly promote the plywood industry. Currently, Tripura hosts two operational plywood-making units, with seven more projects actively in the pipeline.

Banik noted that Tripura boasts an extensive rubber plantation area spanning 1,10,000 hectares, with approximately 10,000 hectares classified as senile, meaning these trees are old and less productive for rubber tapping. He expressed that promoting rubber wood-based plywood, utilizing this senile rubber, holds immense potential.

Should these projects come to fruition, he believes Tripura is poised to become one of the leading states in plywood manufacturing, leveraging its natural resources effectively.
