Under the agreement, PS Group will spearhead the redevelopment works with active support from SMPK in the form of utility facilitation and necessary regulatory clearances. The real estate firm emphasised that the initiative reflects its dedication to preserving Kolkata's historical and cultural heritage through meaningful urban interventions.
Once the redevelopment is completed, the responsibility for ongoing maintenance of the ghat will be transferred to SMPK. This approach marks a continuation of the port authority's strategy of fostering community-focused infrastructure by leveraging private sector participation.
The move follows a similar redevelopment plan signed recently between SMPK and the Adani Group for Kumartoli Ghat. With over 50 ghats lining the banks of Kolkata and Howrah, such initiatives are being seen as pivotal in restoring the city's riverfront identity while boosting tourism and local engagement.
As SMPK continues to facilitate such partnerships, these efforts collectively contribute to reimagining Kolkata's urban narrative-one rooted in heritage preservation and community upliftment.
