Belagavi City Corporation (BCC) recorded an all-time high property tax collection of INR 44.7 crore in the first quarter of FY26. This milestone was driven by an aggressive early-payment incentive campaign and structured tax recovery strategy. The civic body had already collected INR 30.8 crore in April alone without any special campaign which set the tone for this record performance. With an annual target of INR 75 crore and an internal goal of INR 79 crore, the corporation is now focusing on tackling unauthorised constructions and chronic defaulters by initiating stringent legal and recovery actions.
Belagavi City Corporation has achieved a record-breaking property tax collection of INR 44.7 crore in the first quarter of FY26, setting a new benchmark in municipal revenue generation. This figure marks the highest-ever first-quarter performance by the civic body, and comes as a direct result of a well-structured rebate campaign that incentivised early payment. The offer, which was widely publicised across wards, encouraged a surge in timely payments from residents.
The foundation for this achievement was laid in April when the Corporation collected INR 30.8 crore more than one-third of its annual target despite the absence of any special campaign. This strong momentum during the initial month of the fiscal year provided a clear indication of improved public participation and effective administrative measures.
With the Q1 collection now standing at INR 44.7 crore, the civic administration is confident of surpassing its official target of INR 75 crore for the year. In fact, it has internally raised the benchmark to INR 79 crore. This revision underscores the administration's intent to maintain revenue discipline and expand its enforcement efforts.
By integrating data from property records, GIS surveys, and field inspections, the civic body aims to improve tax coverage and reduce leakages. It is also exploring options to digitise assessment and grievance redressal mechanisms to streamline processes and improve transparency.
