Union Commerce and Industry Minister Shri Piyush Goyal held a detailed interaction with deeptech startups to understand their evolving needs and challenges. The discussions focused on enhancing access to funding, strengthening infrastructure support, easing regulatory bottlenecks, and enabling international market reach. Held during the 10th National Startup Advisory Council (NSAC) meeting, the session emphasized innovation-led growth and collaboration to build a future-ready ecosystem. Goyal reiterated the government's commitment to supporting entrepreneurs, especially from smaller cities, as part of the broader Viksit Bharat 2047 vision, with special attention to emerging technologies and deeptech ventures.
Union Minister Shri Piyush Goyal recently interacted with deeptech startup founders in a focused dialogue aimed at strengthening the innovation ecosystem in India. The conversation centered on real challenges faced by startups and how the government could better support them through access to funding, robust infrastructure, regulatory clarity, and global market connections.
Following the interaction, Goyal shared that the discussion provided valuable insights from entrepreneurs and focused on ways to improve the overall operating environment for deeptech ventures. Founders highlighted the urgent need for dedicated deeptech infrastructure, such as advanced R&D labs, testing facilities, and shared workspaces-especially in Tier 2 and 3 cities.
The meeting was part of the 10th session of the National Startup Advisory Council (NSAC), which Goyal chaired. Addressing the council, he emphasized that innovation must serve as the foundation for India's evolving startup ecosystem. He called for greater collaboration across sectors and underlined the critical role of advanced infrastructure in scaling up deeptech innovation.
He also reiterated the government's efforts to empower startups beyond metro cities, noting that inclusive participation from entrepreneurs across the country will be vital to achieving the Viksit Bharat 2047 development goal.
Established in January 2020, NSAC serves as a key advisory body under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. It includes representatives from the startup community, industry experts, and government officials, and regularly proposes actionable strategies to strengthen the startup ecosystem.
India's startup momentum continues to grow. By late 2024, over 159,157 startups had been recognized by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), with over 73,000 of them having at least one woman director. Since 2016, these startups have contributed more than 1.66 million direct jobs to the Indian economy, demonstrating their impact on employment and innovation alike.
