Union Minister Nitin Gadkari recently inaugurated the Sharavathi bridge in Shivamogga, Karnataka-India's second-longest cable-stayed bridge, spanning 6 km and built at a cost of INR 472 crore. The bridge is designed to improve connectivity across the Malnad region. The event, held on July 14, also included foundation stone-laying for nine National Highway projects totaling over INR 2,000 crore. These include upgrades like the 47-km Bidar-Humnabad stretch, aimed at reducing travel time between Kalaburagi and Bidar. Restoration of the Shiradi Ghat section of NH-75 was also announced to ensure safer travel during monsoons. The ruling state party partially boycotted the ceremony.
Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Shri Nitin Gadkari recently inaugurated India's second-longest cable-stayed bridge. This event, held on 14th July, in Shivamogga, Karnataka, also saw the laying of foundation stones for other highway projects. The aim is to enhance regional connectivity and improve mobility across the Malnad region. However, the ruling state party partially boycotted the ceremonies.
The bridge, named Sharavathi, spans 6 kilometers and was built at a cost of INR 472 crore. Gadkari, in a post on X, stated that the bridge aims to enhance regional connectivity and boost mobility across the Malnad region. He was accompanied by former Karnataka CM BS Yediyurappa, Shivamogga MP BY Raghavendra, Karnataka MLA and BJP state president BY Vijayendra, and other leaders.
Apart from the bridge, Gadkari also laid the foundation stone for nine National Highway projects spanning 99 kilometers and worth more than INR 2,000 crore in Karnataka. An official press release by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) stated that the widening of the 47-kilometer-long Bidar-Humnabad section of NH-367 will reduce travel time between the districts of Kalaburagi and Bidar.
Restoration works undertaken in the Shiradi Ghat stretch of NH-75 are expected to ensure safe and uninterrupted traffic movement during the monsoon season, particularly along the Mangaluru-Bengaluru corridor.
