Synopsis

Siemens has secured two significant contracts from Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (MAHA-METRO), valued at approximately INR 773 crore, to provide cutting-edge signalling and telecommunication systems for the Nagpur Metro Rail Project Phase 2. Spanning a network of 43.8 kilometres with 32 stations, the orders cover the design to commissioning of Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC) and advanced telecommunication systems. The project execution timeline is set at 42 months and aims to enhance safety, efficiency, and passenger experience while supporting Nagpur's urban mobility goals.

Siemens Ltd confirmed that it had been awarded two contracts by Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (MAHA-METRO), cumulatively valued at around INR 773 crore, for the provision of advanced signalling and telecommunication systems for the Nagpur Metro Rail Project Phase 2. These contracts also include upgrades linked to Phase 1.

Under the scope of work, Siemens will undertake the design, manufacture, supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of the Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC) signalling technology as well as cutting-edge telecommunication technologies. The project covers 32 stations across a total network length of 43.8 kilometres.

The company highlighted that the deployment of its metro rail technology is expected to improve train frequency, passenger comfort, and operational safety. The systems will enable fully punctual services, optimise train headways, and achieve significant energy savings-all while ensuring top-tier safety protocols.

Rajeev Joisar, who heads Siemens' mobility business in India, noted in a company statement that the project would play a key role in promoting sustainable urban development in Nagpur. He added that this contract demonstrated Siemens' capability to deliver integrated mobility solutions that merge automation, digitalisation, and sustainability to address India's urban transport needs.

Siemens has long been a prominent player in infrastructure, industrial, and mobility technologies in India. It continues to focus on solutions that blend physical and digital systems to support efficient urban transformation.

As Indian metros continue to expand, such integrated technology deployments are becoming essential for modernising public transit systems.
