The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) carried out a demolition drive against an unauthorised structure in Airoli under the directives of Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde. Despite having received a legal notice under the MRTP Act, the property owner, Vasant Sathe, failed to remove the unauthorised construction, prompting officials to partially demolish it. The operation, supervised by Assistant Commissioner Sunil Kathole, also targeted illegal stalls encroaching on the footpath at Diva Gaon Circle. The NMMC has confirmed that such anti-encroachment actions will intensify in the coming period.
The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has undertaken a targeted demolition drive against unauthorised construction activity in the Airoli region. The action was initiated after the concerned property owner ignored previously issued legal notices under Section 54 of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning (MRTP) Act, 1966.
Acting under the instructions of Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde and the guidance of Additional Commissioner (2) Dr Rahul Gethe and Deputy Commissioner (Encroachment) Dr Kailas Gaikwad, the Encroachment Department proceeded with enforcement.
The enforcement was focused on House No. F-203, Sector-03, Airoli, Navi Mumbai, where Vasant Sathe had commenced construction without acquiring mandatory building permissions. The local G-Division office had earlier served a notice in accordance with the MRTP Act, warning the owner to voluntarily dismantle the unauthorised structure. However, Sathe failed to comply and continued the illegal development.
Following an order issued by the Municipal Commissioner on Lokshahi Din (Democracy Day), a partial demolition of the structure was carried out under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner and Airoli Ward Officer Sunil Kathole. The drive also included action against illegal stalls and structures encroaching the pedestrian walkway in Diva Gaon Circle.
The demolition squad consisted of officials and personnel from the G-Division Encroachment Department, supported by 10 labourers, one JCB machine, two breakers, a gas cutter, and police personnel for security. Authorities indicated that similar enforcement operations will continue and intensify as part of the civic body's broader anti-encroachment agenda.
With coordination between enforcement officers, technical staff, and law enforcement, the civic body appears determined to ensure adherence to planning regulations. The recent action in Airoli could serve as a precedent for similar enforcement elsewhere in the city, where illegal construction continues to challenge urban order and compliance.
