Synopsis

The Madhya Pradesh Industrial Development Corporation (MPIDC) has initiated land pooling for the 19.60 km Indore-Pithampur Economic Corridor. This infrastructure project, estimated to cost over INR 2,400 crore, aims to boost industrial growth and connectivity between Indore, Pithampur, and the airport. Farmers will receive 60% developed land as compensation, an increase from the usual 50%. The corridor, 75 meters wide, will feature commercial, industrial, and residential activities along its sides. Land consents are being collected from 17 villages, preparing for construction to begin in the coming months.

The Madhya Pradesh Industrial Development Corporation (MPIDC) has recently started the process of pooling land for a major economic corridor project. This initiative, between Indore and Pithampur, aims to enhance connectivity and promote industrial and commercial growth in the region by acquiring land under a revised pooling policy.

The proposed Indore-Pithampur Economic Corridor spans 19.60 kilometers and will be 75 meters wide. It includes plans for a 300-meter extension on either side for future development. The project is estimated to cost over INR 2,400 crore. Its purpose is to improve connectivity between Pithampur, the Indore airport, and other urban areas, thereby fostering commercial and industrial activities.

MPIDC has begun the land pooling process, with consents for over 250 acres already received. The corporation is actively collecting documents from landowners across 17 villages whose land is part of the corridor.

Under the Land Pooling Act, there is typically a provision to return 50% of the land to its owners. However, for this specific Economic Corridor, Chief Minister Shri Mohan Yadav announced in March that farmers would receive 60% of the total developed land as compensation, with an option for cash compensation as well.

MPIDC has published the plot numbers of lands from these 17 villages, and a 90-day observation period is set for these. Once completed, the corridor is expected to reduce travel time between Indore Airport and Pithampur by half, to just 20 minutes.

The project is projected to create direct and indirect employment for around 5 lakh people and provide affordable housing to 1.15 lakh families. It will include the development of commercial, residential, industrial, and mixed-use areas, along with social infrastructure such as hospitals, schools, colleges, and community centers.

Plans also feature smart facilities like Aero City, Fintech City, Signature Towers, Nagar Van, and Regional Parks. Construction is likely to start in the next six months. Land pooling is a key strategy for large-scale infrastructure and industrial development, enabling faster land acquisition and ensuring landowners become partners in the development process.
