Synopsis

The Defence Estates Office, Delhi Circle, has reclaimed five acres of prime land in Delhi Cantonment from unauthorized occupation. The site, valued at approximately INR 165 crore, was illegally used by dairies and shanties. This operation, part of an ongoing drive, follows a previous reclamation near IGI Airport. The reclaimed land is now available for strategic Defence use. The Defence Estates Organisation, which manages nearly 18 lakh acres across India, plans further actions to protect national assets from encroachment.

The Defence Estates Office, Delhi Circle, recently completed an anti-encroachment operation. This action resulted in reclaiming a parcel of land from unauthorized occupants at Brar Square, Delhi Cantonment. The effort aims to recover prime Defence land that had been illegally occupied.

The recovered land measures five acres and is valued at approximately INR 165 crore. The site had been encroached upon by illegal dairies, temporary shanties, and other unauthorized structures. This land has now been secured and is available for strategic Defence use.

The operation was initiated following a tip-off from a military unit located next to the encroached site. It was carried out by the Office of the Defence Estates Officer, Delhi Circle, under the leadership of Sub Divisional Officer Rakesh, with support from Police Authorities, Local Military Authorities, and the Cantonment Board Delhi. This operation is part of an ongoing drive by the Defence Estates Office (DEO), Delhi Circle, to remove unauthorized occupations from Defence land in the National Capital.

In a recent initiative, 3 acres of prime Defence land adjoining Terminal 1D of IGI Airport were also reclaimed. Further actions targeting unauthorized settlements within the Delhi Cantonment area are planned for the near future. Varun Kalia, Defence Estates Officer, Delhi Circle, stated that Defence land is a critical and strategic national asset, and its protection is a top priority. He added that they are committed to ensuring all such Defence land is freed from encroachments and put to appropriate use in the national interest.

Kalia also mentioned that more such operations are planned, and strong enforcement will continue in coordination with all stakeholder agencies. He further stated that the proactive leadership and continuous support of the Director General Defence Estates (DGDE) have been instrumental in empowering field offices to act decisively against encroachments and protect these vital national assets.

The Defence Estates Organisation, headed by the Director General of Defence Estates (DGDE) under the Ministry of Defence that manages nearly 18 lakh acres of Defence land across India, focuses on protecting Defence land and ensuring its optimal utilization for national security and public service.
