NBCC (India) Ltd has formalised an agreement with the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) for the extensive redevelopment of the Siri Fort Auditorium Complex in New Delhi. Acting as the Project Management Consultant (PMC), NBCC will oversee all aspects of the transformation, which will preserve the site's cultural legacy while integrating modern infrastructure and international green building standards. The 5.5-acre complex, originally constructed during ASIAD 1982, will be repositioned as a world-class creative and cultural hub featuring multiple themed zones, high-tech upgrades, and accessible public spaces.

The Siri Fort complex, spread across 5.5 acres, has long served as a key cultural landmark in India's capital. Built in 1982 during the ASIAD Games, the venue comprises four auditoriums with a combined seating capacity exceeding 2,600. Over the decades, it has hosted an array of global film festivals, concerts, and high-level public discussions. NBCC described the facility as central to India's cultural and cinematic landscape for more than 40 years.
Under the redevelopment plan, the iconic site will be equipped with modern infrastructure that respects its historical and cultural significance. The project will adhere to regulatory codes, heritage conservation guidelines, and green building protocols. It is being executed on a deposit work basis, with NFDC reimbursing NBCC for the actual costs along with PMC charges.
A Joint Empowered Committee, chaired by an NFDC-appointed officer and composed of representatives from both organisations, has been formed to monitor progress, ensure design approvals, and oversee execution timelines.
The redesigned Siri Fort is envisioned as a dynamic cultural district, comprising several specialised zones. These include a Performance and Theatre District for large-scale events, an Indian Film & Media Hub for screenings and exhibitions, and a Convention and Dialogue Forum to host seminars and policy summits. Additionally, an Arts and Culture Zone will showcase visual art, sculpture, and curated installations.
Visitors will also have access to a Culinary Plaza that features regional Indian cuisines, a Cultural Bazaar and Retail Zone for artisan crafts and books, and an Immersive Heritage Gallery, which will use digital technology to present India's cultural heritage interactively.
Technological upgrades will form a key part of the revamp. Plans include intelligent lighting, kinetic stage systems, immersive audio-visual setups, high-speed digital connectivity, and barrier-free design to ensure universal accessibility. The total built-up area is projected to exceed 20,000 square metres, with a permitted building height of 26 metres, in line with a Floor Area Ratio (FAR) of 1.2.
The project will also align with international sustainability benchmarks, including LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), IGBC (Indian Green Building Council), and GRIHA (Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment). NBCC will oversee all phases, including master planning, architectural design, statutory approvals, engineering, and construction.
With NBCC's stewardship and NFDC's vision, the project aims not only to preserve the historical essence of the site but also to elevate it into a modern cultural epicentre. As Delhi continues to grow as a global city, projects like this serve to both celebrate its past and shape its creative future.
