Synopsis

State-owned SJVN has signed multiple power purchase agreements to supply green energy from its hydro electric projects in Nepal and Himachal Pradesh. The agreements, announced on Tuesday, involve Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) and New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC). Projects like the 900-MW Arun-III in Nepal and the 210-MW Luhri Stage-I and 382-MW Sunni Dam HEPs in Himachal Pradesh will add 592 MW of green energy to the national grid upon commissioning by December 2028. These deals contribute to India's clean energy transition and power infrastructure.

SJVN, a state-owned power company, has announced the signing of multiple agreements for power supply. This move, made on Tuesday, impacts electricity supply in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi, with power sourced from projects in Nepal and Himachal Pradesh. The initiative aims to provide green energy to the national grid and support power demands through power purchase agreements with major distribution companies.

SJVN has signed a Power Sale Agreement with Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) for power from its 900-MW Arun-III Hydro Electric Project in Nepal. This project is being developed by SJVN in Sankhuwasabha district of Nepal through its fully-owned subsidiary, SJVN Arun-3 Power Development Company (SAPDC). Upon commissioning, it will generate 900 MW of clean energy and is expected to play a role in meeting the nation's growing power demands.

SJVN also signed Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with UPPCL for supply of power from its upcoming 210 MW Luhri Stage-I and 382 MW Sunni Dam Hydro Electric Projects (HEP) in Himachal Pradesh. Separately, a PPA was signed with New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) for power from the 382-MW Sunni Dam HEP. Both the 210 MW Luhri Stage-I and 382 MW Sunni Dam HEP in Himachal Pradesh are expected to be commissioned by December 2028.

These two projects together will add 592 MW of green energy to the national grid and generate 2140 MU of electricity annually. Bhupender Gupta, CMD (Additional Charge) of SJVN, stated that these agreements represent a step towards realizing SJVN's commitment to clean energy transition and strengthening power infrastructure for urban consumers. State-owned power companies like SJVN are crucial for India's energy security and its transition to renewable sources.
