Synopsis

The Delhi Development Authority has announced a new residential plot auction for 118 plots in Sector D6, Vasant Kunj, a premium south Delhi locality developed by the agency in 2010. The move is part of a larger initiative to upgrade internal infrastructure and resolve long-standing parking issues. A specialised agency will be hired to demarcate plots and revamp roads, stormwater drains, and pipelines. Additionally, surface parking will be constructed for around 1,904 flats across four blocks. The entire project is expected to be completed within a year of awarding the contract and will follow strict CPWD and environmental norms.

The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has rolled out plans to auction 118 residential plots in Sector D6 of Vasant Kunj, a high-end neighbourhood in South Delhi. Originally developed in 2010 by the DDA, the sector has faced persistent issues related to inadequate infrastructure and parking shortages. This fresh auction is aimed at not only offering premium land parcels but also significantly upgrading the surrounding infrastructure.

DDA has initiated a tendering process to appoint a specialised agency responsible for demarcating the plots and overhauling internal civic amenities. This includes reconstruction of internal roads, stormwater drains, sewer and water pipelines, as well as the development of rainwater harvesting systems. Additionally, footpaths, parks, and driveways will be upgraded, and all works will be aligned with Central Public Works Department (CPWD) guidelines and National Green Tribunal (NGT) norms. The contractor will also be tasked with linking the sewer network to existing lines and ensuring the removal of construction and demolition waste.

Alongside the auction, DDA has also proposed constructing surface-level parking facilities for four major residential blocks in Sector D6-Ganga, Yamuna, Narmada, and Saraswati-targeting a long-pending need of residents. This initiative will create parking for nearly 1,904 existing flats, improving accessibility and decongesting internal roads. Historically, inadequate parking space has been a major concern for Vasant Kunj residents, with many forced to park vehicles along narrow lanes, often leading to traffic snarls and disputes.

The infrastructure work will begin soon after the contract is awarded, with a strict completion window of one year. The timeline has been divided into two key phases: three months for planning, design, and approval processes, followed by nine months dedicated to on-ground execution. Environmental clearances, including permissions for any necessary tree removal, will be obtained from the forest department to ensure minimal ecological disruption.

Vasant Kunj, once farmland in the early 1990s, has since evolved into a sought-after residential area developed under various DDA housing schemes. While the agency has historically focused on allotting built-up flats, this renewed focus on plotted development in an already established sector marks a significant shift in its approach. The decision to conduct the auction online is intended to maintain transparency and accessibility for interested buyers.

With this move, DDA is not only aiming to address infrastructure and civic issues in Sector D6 but also exploring a more flexible, market-responsive model of urban residential development.
