Synopsis

Ludhiana is set to inaugurate several new civic body projects, including an innovative construction and demolition (C&D) waste plant. The plant, located in Dhandhari, will process at least 100 tons of waste daily to produce tiles, costing INR 7.30 crore for its tender. Other upcoming facilities include an all-weather swimming pool near Rakh Bagh (INR 5.82 crore) and a basketball court at Guru Nanak Stadium (INR 14.38 crore). These projects aim to enhance urban infrastructure and environmental management, addressing long-standing needs for waste processing and sports facilities in the city.

Ludhiana's civic body is preparing to inaugurate several new infrastructure projects soon across the city. These initiatives aim to address urban needs, including waste management and public facilities, by launching facilities developed under various missions.

The upcoming projects include an innovative construction and demolition (C&D) waste plant, an all-weather swimming pool, and a basketball court. The C&D waste plant, located in Dhandhari, was initially planned under the Smart City Mission but was later taken up under the Swachh Bharat Mission due to increased costs and structural changes.

The project's initial estimated cost was INR 2.69 crore, but it escalated to INR 7.30 crore for the tender, with an additional INR 2.20 crore spent on machinery purchased under the Smart City Mission. This cost increase was mainly due to the allocated site being a dumpsite, which required pillar construction and trash removal.

The plant will process at least 100 tons of construction waste per day, and the contractor will manufacture products like tiles from the crushed waste. This plant is important for Ludhiana because frequent construction generates widespread rubble that often litters public spaces, and previous attempts to designate disposal sites were not successful. The all-weather swimming pool has been built near Rakh Bagh, costing INR 5.82 crore under the Smart City Mission. This pool meets a long-standing demand for winter swimming, especially for athletes.

Additionally, a basketball court at Guru Nanak Stadium, costing INR 14.38 crore under the Smart City Mission, is nearing completion. MC Commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal stated that the swimming pool is ready, trial runs for the C&D waste plant have been conducted, and the basketball court will be completed soon. The civic body plans to hand over these new sports facilities to private bodies for maintenance.
