Synopsis

Rajasthan has achieved over 1 lakh rooftop solar installations under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, with installations growing to more than 10,000 per month. Jaipur, Ajmer, and Jodhpur discoms account for 33,922, 32,957, and 33,378 installations respectively, totaling 408 MW of capacity. Subsidies worth up to INR 78,000 have been credited to over 86,000 consumers. Rajasthan now ranks fifth nationally in rooftop solar adoption. Simplified procedures, awards, and exemption of upfront charges have significantly boosted participation under the scheme.

Rajasthan has surpassed the milestone of installing over 1 lakh rooftop solar plants under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, with more than 10,000 new installations being added every month. The Jaipur power distribution company has installed 33,922 systems, Ajmer discom 32,957, and Jodhpur discom 33,378, bringing the total in the state to 1,00,257 installations with a combined capacity of 408 megawatts.

Subsidies have been directly credited to the bank accounts of 86,307 consumers who installed rooftop solar plants. Jaipur discom released subsidies to 29,585 users, Jodhpur discom to 28,490, and Ajmer discom to 28,232 consumers. The scheme offers a maximum subsidy of up to INR 78,000 for installing rooftop solar systems with a capacity of up to 3 kW.

Rajasthan now ranks fifth in the country for rooftop solar installations under this scheme, following Gujarat (6.73 lakh), Maharashtra (3.33 lakh), Uttar Pradesh (2.73 lakh), and Kerala (1.59 lakh). Demand for rooftop solar systems has risen sharply, from just 37 installations in February 2024, when the scheme began, to over 10,000 per month currently.

The state's power distribution companies have introduced several initiatives to simplify the installation process. These include the Rooftop Solar Champion Award for employees, standard procedures to streamline applications, exemptions from upfront charges, and simplified billing and metering processes. These measures have contributed to increased consumer participation in the scheme.
