Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) has collected over INR 150 crore in property tax within just the first two months of FY 2025-26, achieving 63% of its annual target of INR 237 crore. The boost came from a 5% rebate scheme incentivising early taxpayers, which remains active until the end of June. With 1.95 lakh revenue-generating properties across 65 wards, MCC's strategic drive is expected to significantly enhance civic infrastructure and financial planning in the months ahead.
In the first two months of the current fiscal year, Mysuru's city government collected more than INR 150 crore in property taxes, indicating a remarkable increase in municipal income collection. This increase amounts to over 63% of the INR 237 crore overall objective set by Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) for 2025-2026.
Officials credited this momentum to a 5% rebate offered to those who made early payments, with the incentive period extended through the end of June. The initiative appears to have encouraged greater compliance among property owners.
The city has around 2.25 lakh registered properties, of which 1.95 lakh contribute revenue. These are spread across nine zones and 65 wards. In the previous fiscal year, MCC had collected INR 183.82 crore against a target of INR 214.55 crore. The year before, it collected INR 210.03 crore out of the intended INR 251.41 crore. This year's pace is, therefore, on track to outperform past performances.
Commissioner Shaikh Tanveer Asif praised the milestone, stating that joint efforts by officials across all zones had yielded excellent results. He urged residents who had not yet paid their dues to take advantage of the rebate window. He also emphasised the importance of early tax payments in enabling the civic body to deliver better urban services.
This property tax campaign is expected to strengthen Mysuru's ability to fund infrastructure upgrades, manage public services efficiently, and enhance long-term city planning.
Mysuru's rapid property tax collection reflects both strong civic engagement and the effectiveness of well-structured fiscal incentives. By aligning administrative efficiency with taxpayer benefits, MCC has created a replicable model for other urban bodies across India. As the city continues to grow, timely mobilisation of revenue will be essential in addressing its expanding infrastructural and service demands. The corporation's success this year may serve not only as a financial benchmark but also as a signal of evolving governance strategies focused on transparency, responsiveness, and sustainable urban development.
