IHG Hotels & Resorts has signed a management agreement with Kevit Retreats for the development of a 150-key Holiday Inn Express & Suites in Pithampur, Madhya Pradesh. Announced earlier this week, the property is expected to open in the first quarter of 2028. This move reflects IHG's ongoing strategy to penetrate emerging industrial locations with globally recognised hospitality offerings. Positioned as a rising industrial centre, Pithampur is especially known for its automotive and pharmaceutical sectors, making it a strategic location for hospitality expansion. IHG currently operates 50 hotels in India and is planning to add 63 more in the next three to five years.
IHG Hotels & Resorts has entered into a management agreement with Kevit Retreats to develop a new Holiday Inn Express & Suites in the rapidly expanding industrial town of Pithampur, Madhya Pradesh. The announcement was made earlier this week, with the property scheduled to commence operations in the first quarter of 2028.
The upcoming hotel will feature 150 keys and will operate under the Holiday Inn Express & Suites brand, known for its efficient service and modern amenities tailored for business and transit travellers. This strategic addition reflects IHG's focused approach towards expanding its footprint in high-potential, underpenetrated markets across India.
Sudeep Jain, Managing Director - South West Asia, IHG Hotels & Resorts, noted that the signing of this hotel further reinforced the group's intent to introduce world-class branded experiences in newer markets. He shared that Pithampur has evolved into a prominent industrial hub, driven largely by the presence of major players in the automotive and pharmaceutical industries. Jain also mentioned that the group was pleased to collaborate with Kevit Retreats for this upcoming project, which he said would contribute to the area's growing demand for quality accommodation.
Located near Indore, Pithampur is often referred to as the 'Detroit of India' due to its strong base of automobile manufacturing units. Over the past decade, the area has also witnessed rapid expansion in the pharmaceutical sector, making it an ideal site for business-friendly hospitality developments.
Currently, IHG operates 50 hotels across six of its global brands within India. The group is also developing a strong pipeline of 63 new properties slated to open over the next three to five years, which indicates its continued confidence in the growth trajectory of the Indian hospitality market.
With brands such as InterContinental, Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, and others operating in major cities and resort destinations, IHG has increasingly been shifting focus to emerging tier-II and industrial markets such as Pithampur as it eyes a more diversified presence across the country.
By partnering with Kevit Retreats, IHG is reinforcing its strategy to capitalise on regional industrial clusters that are witnessing rapid economic and infrastructural development. As demand for quality accommodation continues to rise in non-metro centres, this project could serve as a model for similar future ventures. The initiative reflects IHG's long-term confidence in India's hospitality sector and its evolving regional landscape.
