The MoU, which can be extended with mutual consent, also includes regulatory approvals and assistance with contractor selection.
Shree Cement Ltd has recently entered into a strategic five-year Memorandum of Understanding with RITES Ltd, a government-owned enterprise operating under the Ministry of Railways, to strengthen its nationwide rail logistics network. This alliance aims to ensure the seamless and eco-friendly movement of both raw materials and finished products across the company's multiple manufacturing units.
As part of the collaboration, RITES will offer comprehensive services spanning the entire project lifecycle from initial concept to final commissioning. These services will focus on the development of new railway links as well as the upgrading and renovation of existing rail infrastructure. The agreement has the provision to be extended based on mutual agreement between the two entities.
Neeraj Akhoury, Managing Director of Shree Cement, remarked that as the company continues to expand its production presence across India, enhancing its logistics and supply chain capabilities has become a top priority. He stated that the partnership with RITES represented a strategic move towards establishing a more sustainable, cost-effective, and efficient transport system, although he did not specify the number of projects currently in the pipeline.
RITES will also play a crucial role in helping Shree Cement obtain essential approvals from the Ministry of Railways and other regulatory authorities, covering areas such as civil works, signalling and telecommunications, overhead electrification, and mechanical engineering. Moreover, the public sector entity will support the tendering phase by assessing and certifying the qualifications of contractors to ensure suitability for execution.
Deepak Tripathi, who is serving as Director (Technical & Projects) with additional charge at RITES, conveyed that with the company's established expertise in rail and transport engineering, it is well-positioned to deliver integrated and future-ready solutions that are aligned with both organisations' business objectives.
By leveraging RITES' domain expertise, Shree Cement is positioning itself to scale operations while addressing transportation efficiency and environmental concerns. The move aligns with broader trends in the cement industry where integrated supply chain and infrastructure development are becoming essential for long-term competitiveness. As the projects unfold, the collaboration is expected to yield improved connectivity and operational agility for Shree Cement across its national footprint.
