Synopsis

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has intensified action against unauthorized construction in Airoli. Acting on the Municipal Commissioner's directives, the encroachment department demolished an illegally built RCC structure behind Vinita Apartments in Sector 20. Despite prior notices under Section 54 of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966, the builder continued work without approval. The operation involved demolition equipment, a specialized crew, and an on-site encroachment team. A penalty of INR 50,000 was also imposed on the violator. NMMC has announced that such enforcement will continue citywide to deter violations and uphold planned urban development. The move underscores NMMC's commitment to preserving Navi Mumbai's orderly infrastructure and protecting law-abiding residents. Ongoing vigilance will be key to sustaining the city's growth and urban integrity.

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) recently intensified enforcement against unauthorized construction activities in the Airoli division. Despite receiving official notices from the Corporation's encroachment department, the concerned parties disregarded these warnings and continued building without approval. Acting under the directives of the Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde and guided by Additional Commissioner (2) Dr Rahul Gethe and Deputy Commissioner (Encroachment) Mr Bhagwat Doifode, the encroachment department undertook demolition operations to remove the illegal structures.

The unauthorised construction involved an RCC building behind Vinita Apartments in Sector 20 of Airoli village, carried out without any permission from the NMMC. Notices were previously served under Section 54 of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966, instructing the builders to dismantle the illegal construction themselves. However, as they failed to comply, the Corporation proceeded with partial demolition of the structure.

This stringent action involved the deployment of three breakers, two hammers, one gas cutter, alongside a team comprising ten labourers and one Mukadam. Officials from the encroachment department of the Airoli division were present to oversee the operation. Additionally, a penalty fee of INR 50,000 was imposed on the construction owner as a punitive measure.

The NMMC has announced that such crackdowns on unauthorised constructions will continue to be carried out with greater intensity to curb violations and maintain planned urban development across the city.

By imposing fines and physically removing illegal structures, the Corporation is sending a clear message that such violations will not be tolerated. This proactive approach is essential for sustaining orderly urban growth and safeguarding the interests of law-abiding residents and stakeholders. Going forward, continued vigilance and prompt action will be vital in maintaining the integrity of Navi Mumbai's planned infrastructure and housing landscape.
