In a recent inspection drive across Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam districts, the Chairman of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Santosh Kumar Yadav, evaluated critical stretches plagued by structural vulnerabilities and drainage issues. The site visit covered areas like Enchakkal, Kazhakuttom, Chembakamangalam, Kottayam, and Mevaram, which feature high vertical cuts and demand immediate attention for slope stability and water flow management. Accompanied by experts from the concessionaire and NHAI's technical teams, the inspection precedes a strategic meeting with Kerala's Chief Secretary to address systemic obstacles and enhance coordination for smoother project implementation.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) Chairman, Santosh Kumar Yadav, carried out a thorough field examination of highway project segments in the districts of Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam in Kerala earlier this week. The review particularly concentrated on structurally sensitive zones and regions identified as susceptible to drainage complications.
As outlined in an official release, the inspection covered vital locations including Enchakkal, Kazhakuttom, Chembakamangalam, Kottayam, and Mevaram. These areas consist of high vertical cut sections and terrain necessitating immediate assessment in terms of structural integrity and water management solutions.
Yadav was joined during the site visit by a team of technical experts representing the concessionaire, the Independent Engineer, the Project Director for Thiruvananthapuram, and the NHAI's Regional Officer for Kerala. The collective presence of these stakeholders underscored the critical nature of the evaluation and the urgency in addressing ongoing engineering concerns.
Additionally, the NHAI Chairman was expected to hold discussions with Kerala's Chief Secretary to deliberate on key impediments hindering the progress of national highway development in the state. According to the official statement, the meeting would aim to eliminate systemic roadblocks, foster better inter-agency collaboration, and chart out strategic interventions to accelerate current and forthcoming infrastructure initiatives across the region.
By focusing on structurally sensitive sections and zones vulnerable to waterlogging, the visit sets the tone for heightened accountability and technical precision. The upcoming dialogue with the Chief Secretary indicates a push for policy-level coordination, which could potentially redefine the pace and quality of infrastructure delivery in the region. If followed through with timely interventions, this approach could serve as a model for other states grappling with similar developmental challenges.
