The Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has issued notices to 308 beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), mainly from the Lighthouse Project (LHP), who have defaulted on payments despite receiving allotment letters in 2022. The LHP consists of 1,008 flats across 5.33 acres in Aani, Dhurwa. Each flat costs around INR 13 lakh, with INR 6.5 lakh subsidised by the Union and state governments. Beneficiaries must pay the balance in five instalments. The RMC has collaborated with Canara Bank and HDFC Bank to expedite housing loan approvals to assist beneficiaries in clearing dues.
The Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) recently issued notices to 308 PMAY beneficiaries, primarily from the Lighthouse Project (LHP), for non-payment of dues despite having received allotment letters in 2022. The LHP comprises 1,008 flats spread over 5.33 acres in Aani, Dhurwa. Each flat is priced at approximately INR 13 lakh, with INR 6.5 lakh subsidised by both the Union and state governments. Beneficiaries are required to pay the remaining INR 6.5 lakh in five instalments: an initial INR 5,000 security deposit, followed by INR 20,000, and four payments of INR 1.63 lakh each.
The RMC set a deadline of early June for beneficiaries to clear their dues; failure to do so will result in cancellation of their flat allotments. To ease this process, the RMC conducted meetings with officials from Canara Bank and HDFC Bank, urging them to prioritise processing housing loan applications from LHP beneficiaries. Deputy Municipal Commissioner Gautam Prasad Sahu stressed the urgency and advised beneficiaries to approach these banks promptly to avoid losing their allotments, noting that no further extensions would be granted.
This initiative highlights the critical role of timely payments in government housing schemes and underscores the importance of financial institutions in supporting beneficiaries through housing loans. The partnership between the RMC and banks aims to ensure that eligible individuals can access the benefits of the PMAY without financial barriers.
By setting clear deadlines and working closely with banks, the RMC is ensuring that the housing benefits reach rightful recipients without undue delays. This approach also sends a strong message to beneficiaries about the importance of adhering to payment schedules to secure their homes under the government scheme.
