IHG Hotels & Resorts marked a key milestone earlier this week with the opening of its 50th operational hotel in India Crowne Plaza Lucknow, comprising 110 keys. The hospitality giant reaffirmed its commitment to the Indian market by announcing a robust pipeline of nearly 70 hotels slated for launch over the next two to three years. Meanwhile, Indian Hotels Company Ltd (IHCL) entered into an agreement for a 101-key Gateway-branded hotel in Nathdwara, Rajasthan. The move supports IHCL's strategy to strengthen its presence in religious and cultural destinations across India.
The 110-key Crowne Plaza Lucknow, IHG Hotels & Resorts' 50th operational property in India, was officially opened last week. Haitham Mattar, Managing Director for the Middle East, Africa, and Southwest Asia at IHG, stated that this milestone highlighted the company's strong dedication to the Indian market. He conveyed that while mainstream brands such as Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, and Garner continued to drive growth, the company was simultaneously enhancing its premium and luxury offerings through globally recognised brands like Crowne Plaza, InterContinental, and Six Senses.
At present, IHG operates 50 hotels across five distinct brands within India. The company also has an active development pipeline of nearly 70 properties expected to be launched over the next two to three years.
In a separate development, Indian Hotels Company Ltd (IHCL) disclosed earlier this week that it had signed an agreement for a 101-key Gateway-branded hotel in Nathdwara, Rajasthan.
Suma Venkatesh, Executive Vice President - Real Estate and Development at IHCL, mentioned that Nathdwara's combination of spiritual significance, rich cultural heritage, and natural beauty made it a compelling destination for both pilgrims and tourists. She added that this signing aligned with the group's strategy to expand across major spiritual destinations. The new property is being developed in collaboration with Madan Singh Chauhan.
With this addition, IHCL's footprint in Rajasthan now includes 31 hotels, eight of which are currently under development.
Meanwhile, IHCL's strategic focus on religious tourism through its Nathdwara signing showcases its intent to capitalise on cultural and spiritual travel demand. With both companies actively expanding their portfolios, the Indian hospitality landscape continues to mature into a well-segmented and opportunity-rich environment.
