The Centre has approved the extension of Noida Metro's Aqua Line to Boraki, a 2.6-kilometer elevated stretch costing INR 416 crore. This extension, expected to be completed within three years, aims to connect the Aqua Line to a proposed multi-modal transport hub at Boraki, integrating rail, bus, and rapid rail services. This development is a key part of a broader strategy to ease road traffic congestion and improve connectivity to the upcoming Noida International Airport from Noida and Delhi. The project, funded by shared contributions from the Centre, Uttar Pradesh government, and a loan, is projected to serve a daily ridership of 60,000 by 2031.
The Centre has recently approved a significant extension of the Noida Metro's Aqua Line to Boraki. This new 2.6-kilometer elevated stretch, with an estimated cost of INR 416 crore, is expected to be completed within three years.
The main goal of this extension is to connect the Aqua Line directly to a proposed multi-modal transport hub at Boraki. This hub is designed to bring together various transport services, including the Delhi-Howrah rail corridor, an inter-state bus terminal, and a rapid rail service connecting to Ghaziabad. The Greater Noida rail station at Boraki is envisioned as a key gateway for the National Capital Region (NCR) to the eastern part of the country.
This development forms part of a larger strategy to reduce road traffic congestion and enhance connectivity to the upcoming Noida International Airport from both Noida and Delhi. There are also plans to extend the Aqua Line's Sector 142 station to Botanical Garden, which is currently under review. The Botanical Garden station already serves as a transfer point for the Delhi Metro's Blue Line and Magenta Line.
Funding for the new metro corridor will be shared, with the Centre and the Uttar Pradesh government each contributing 20 percent. The remaining 60 percent will come from a loan provided by the National Capital Region Planning Board. The Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) estimates that this new segment could see a daily ridership of 60,000 passengers by 2031.
The existing Aqua Line spans 29.7 kilometers and currently has an average daily ridership of nearly 57,000 passengers. Other proposed extensions, including a 17-kilometer stretch from Sector 51 to Knowledge Park V and an 11.6-kilometer corridor linking Sector 142 to Botanical Garden, are currently awaiting central approval.
